According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China, in October 2010, the country produced 5.259 million tons of plastic products. From January to October, the cumulative output reached 45.471 million tons, marking a year-on-year increase of 20.5%. This was not only higher than the same period in previous years but also surpassed the total output of the entire previous year.
Guangdong remained the top province in plastic product production. In October alone, it produced 1.312 million tons, and the cumulative output for the first ten months totaled 10.746 million tons, reflecting a 18.8% growth compared to the same period in 2009. This accounted for 23.6% of the national total. Last year, Guangdong’s annual output was 10.52 million tons, which means that by the end of October this year, the province had already exceeded its 2009 annual output by 226,000 tons.
Following Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Liaoning were among the major contributors to the national plastic output. These provinces accounted for 16%, 9.2%, 7.9%, and 6% respectively. Among them, Shandong saw a significant growth rate of 26%, while Liaoning grew at 18.6%. Zhejiang and Jiangsu recorded growths of 16% and 12.3% respectively.
In terms of product categories, plastic films, pipes and fittings, as well as silk ropes and woven products, showed high output levels. In October, the output of these categories reached 715,000 tons, 750,000 tons, and 655,000 tons respectively. The cumulative output for the first ten months of the year exceeded 5.5 million tons. Notably, the production of plastic pipe fittings grew at a rapid pace of 28%, and daily-use plastic products reached a cumulative output of 5.122 million tons.
This data highlights the strong performance of China's plastic industry in 2010, with several provinces showing robust growth and key product segments driving the overall expansion.
