At the end of the year, as the calendar approached the final days, the market for gold and silver coin gifts was booming. However, with the surge in demand came an increase in counterfeit products, which left many customers frustrated. Recently, a foreign customer traveled all the way to Wuhan to verify the authenticity of a commemorative silver coin using its certificate number. The customer eventually found a dealer, but upon inspection, it turned out that the so-called "clone" coin was still on display in the store’s cabinet.
On the 18th, an employee from Wuhan Jinheng Company, a Chinese gold coin retailer, shared details with reporters. The company had recently received inquiries about the 2011 Rabbit Lunar New Year 1 kg commemorative silver coin. A customer claimed to have purchased one such coin, which they later checked through the "Sunshine Number" system on the China Gold Coin Online platform. According to the system, the coin's serial number matched one from the company’s 2011 Rabbit Year commemorative collection. However, the company confirmed that all of its stock of the 1 kg silver coins had already been sold. Further investigation revealed that the specific coin in question was still in the store, meaning it had not been sold to the customer.
It became clear that the coin the customer purchased was likely a counterfeit, and had no connection to the company. According to the reporter, the foreign customer had paid 43,000 yuan for the "cloned" coin — a price very close to that of the genuine product. This similarity in pricing made it even more difficult for customers to distinguish between real and fake items.
Wuhan Jinheng Company has since reported the incident to the China Gold Coin Head Office and issued a warning to potential buyers. They advised customers to purchase precious metal commemorative coins only from authorized retail stores that are officially recognized by the China Gold Coin Head Office. This step is crucial in preventing fraud and avoiding unnecessary financial losses. As the demand for collectible coins continues to grow, staying informed and purchasing from trusted sources has never been more important.
