According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, in October 2010, the country produced 5.259 million tons of plastic products. From January to October, the cumulative output reached 45.471 million tons, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 20.5%. This marked the first time that the total output for the first ten months surpassed the entire annual output from the previous year.
Guangdong remained the top province in plastic product production. In October alone, it produced 1.312 million tons, and the cumulative output from January to October was 10.746 million tons—an 18.8% increase compared to the same period the previous year. This accounted for 23.6% of the national total. Last year, Guangdong's total output was 10.52 million tons, meaning that by the end of October this year, the province had already exceeded its 2009 annual output by 226,000 tons.
Following Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Liaoning were the next major contributors. These provinces accounted for 16%, 9.2%, 7.9%, and 6% of the national output respectively. Among them, Shandong showed the fastest growth at 26%, while Liaoning followed with 18.6%, Zhejiang at 16%, and Jiangsu at 12.3%.
In terms of product categories, plastic films, pipes and fittings, and silk ropes and woven products saw the highest production volumes. In October, their outputs reached 715,000 tons, 750,000 tons, and 655,000 tons respectively. The cumulative output for these categories exceeded 5.5 million tons. Notably, the production of plastic pipe fittings grew rapidly, with a year-on-year increase of 28%. Additionally, daily-use plastic products reached a cumulative output of 5.122 million tons during the same period.
