In September of this year, France’s textile and apparel consumption income increased by 2%

In a recent report, France's "Textile" magazine highlighted that the French Institute of Fashion has confirmed a steady recovery in the consumption of fashion and textile products in France from January to August this year. When measured at a fixed exchange rate, the sales value of these products saw an average increase of 0.5%. This marks a positive shift, as the sector appears to be emerging from its previous downturn. In September alone, revenue rose by 2%, which is a significant improvement compared to the same period in 2009, when the sector hit its lowest point with a 7.5% decline. The report further noted that sales of textile and clothing products surged by 11.2% in September. Large retail stores experienced a 7.1% rise in sales, while other distribution channels also performed well. Private retail stores saw a 2.6% increase, and specialty stores recorded a 1.5% growth. However, not all segments were equally successful. Sales at major wholesale outlets declined by 3.2%, and home textiles continued to show weak performance. On a positive note, men’s fashion saw a 4.4% increase in sales, women’s fashion rose by 3.3%, and sales of women’s shoes and undergarments grew by 2.2%. Overall, the data suggests a gradual but meaningful recovery in the French textile and fashion industry, with certain categories and retail formats performing particularly well amid broader economic challenges.
