In September of this year, France’s textile and apparel consumption income increased by 2%
France's *Textile* recently reported that the French Institute of Fashion confirmed a stabilized recovery in the consumption of fashion and textile products from January to August this year. When measured at a fixed exchange rate, the sales value increased by an average of 0.5%, indicating that the sector is gradually emerging from its recent downturn. In September, revenue saw a 2% rise, marking a significant improvement compared to the same period in 2009, when it had hit its lowest point with a 7.5% decline.
The report highlighted that sales of textile and clothing products surged by 11.2% in September, with large department stores performing particularly well, recording a 7.1% increase. Other retail channels also showed positive trends, with private retail stores growing by 2.6% and specialty stores rising by 1.5%. However, major wholesale stations experienced a 3.2% drop in sales, while home textiles continued to show weak performance.
In terms of product categories, men’s fashion saw a 4.4% increase in sales, women’s fashion rose by 3.3%, and women’s shoes and undergarments recorded a 2.2% growth. These figures suggest that consumer demand is gradually returning, especially in key segments like men’s and women’s apparel. Despite some challenges in certain channels, the overall trend points toward a more optimistic outlook for the French textile and fashion industry.
