The police assist Yao Yao to create a "world weaving card"

In the heart of Duan’an Yao Autonomous County, Guangxi Province, walking along Xinsu Street in Disu Township, you’ll find a vibrant display of weaving crafts. From raw materials to finished products, every corner reflects the county’s deep-rooted tradition in bamboo and rattan weaving. In the first 11 months of 2011, the county’s woven handicrafts were exported to over 20 countries and regions, including Japan, the United States, and the Netherlands. The export value reached 123 million yuan, with more than 9.8 million yuan in taxes paid—an increase of 19.7% compared to the previous year. Bamboo and rattan awning weaving is one of the “ten industries” driving local economic development. For years, the local police have been actively cracking down on counterfeit samples and illegal activities that threaten the industry. Their efforts have helped protect weavers’ innovations and ensure the legal rights and interests of the entire community, fostering a healthy and growing export market. Mo Jiafen, director of Du’an Weiye Weaving Factory, shared his experience: “In recent years, the public security situation has improved significantly. Local officers frequently visit the area to conduct legal education, which has raised people’s awareness of the law. Even with shrinking sales channels, we can now safely connect with foreign buyers online. By following new customer demands, we create innovative designs, improve product quality, and tap into emerging overseas markets. Our goal is to establish a ‘world weaving business card’ that wins global recognition.” Recently, Mo Jiafen was defrauded of a vehicle weaving sample in Guangzhou. Upon receiving the report, the police quickly intervened, assessed the damage, and helped minimize his losses. This kind of support has become a common practice in the region. The local police also assist weaving enterprises in applying for certifications and encourage them to participate in major trade fairs like the ASEAN Expo and the Canton Fair. Through digital platforms, they promote Duan’an’s bamboo, rattan, and grass weaving crafts, aiming to build a strong international brand. By leveraging foreign investment and expanding export channels, the county continues to see steady growth in its handicraft exports. Liang Zhenmiao, a 46-year-old Yao woman from Ganditun Village in Dading, is one of many who benefit from this thriving industry. At home, she adds a plastic film to a semi-finished bamboo and rattan awning. She happily mentions that she earns about 20 yuan per day. “This is how I create my own ‘World Braid Business Card’ every day,” she says with a smile.
