The police assist Yao Yao to create a "world weaving card"

In the heart of Duan’an Yao Autonomous County, Guangxi Province, along Xinsu Street in Disu Township, the art of weaving is alive and thriving. As you walk through this vibrant area, you'll find a wide array of weaving-related items on display—raw materials, samples, and finished products that tell a story of tradition and innovation. In the first 11 months of 2011 alone, the county's woven handicrafts were exported to over 20 countries and regions, including Japan, the United States, and the Netherlands. The export value reached an impressive 123 million yuan, with taxes paid exceeding 9.8 million yuan—an increase of 19.7% compared to the previous year. Bamboo and rattan awning weaving is one of the "ten key industries" in Duan’an. For years, local police have been actively working to combat fraud and illegal practices, such as the production of fake woven samples for profit. They have also focused on protecting the intellectual property of weavers and supporting the growth of the industry. This effort has helped ensure the legitimate rights and interests of the entire county, creating a positive trend in the export of traditional handicrafts. Mo Jiafen, director of Du’an Weiye Weaving Factory, shared his experience with the author: “In recent years, the public security situation has improved significantly. Local officers often visit the community to conduct legal education and awareness campaigns, which has raised people’s understanding of the law. Even though sales channels have become more limited, we are now able to safely connect with foreign buyers online. Based on new customer requirements and trends, we develop innovative designs, improve product quality, and explore emerging overseas markets. Our goal is to create a 'world weaving business card' that wins the trust and appreciation of international users.” Not long ago, a weaving boss named Mo was defrauded of a vehicle weaving sample in Guangzhou. Upon receiving the report, the local police quickly responded, investigated the case, and helped recover some of the losses. Such prompt action gives weavers confidence in the system. The county police have also assisted weaving enterprises in applying for necessary certifications and supported their participation in major trade fairs like the ASEAN Expo and the Canton Fair. Through online platforms, they promote the unique bamboo, rattan, and grass weaving crafts of Duan’an, aiming to establish a global brand. By leveraging foreign investment and expanding export opportunities, the county continues to see steady and rapid growth in its handicraft exports. Liang Zhenmiao, a 46-year-old Yao woman from Ganditun Village in Dading, Di Su Town, spends her days at home adding a plastic film to semi-finished bamboo and rattan awnings. She earns around 20 yuan a day, which she sees as part of her contribution to creating “World Braid Business Cards.” Every day, she plays a small but meaningful role in preserving and promoting her culture through craftsmanship.
