Humen, located on the eastern bank of the Pearl River Estuary, is a vibrant town in Dongguan, Guangdong Province. Situated at the crossroads of the provincial and Hong Kong-Macao economic corridors, it boasts well-developed sea, land, and air transportation networks. Historically renowned for Lin Zexu's "Humen Opium Destruction," which marked a pivotal moment in Chinese history, Humen has now gained global recognition for its thriving "Humen Clothing" industry. Today, Humen stands as a globally recognized hub known as the "China Garment City" and "China Women's Famous Town." The clothing industry here is characterized by large-scale production, high output, premium quality, trendy designs, fast delivery, and strong market presence. Annually, the town accounts for about 30% of Guangdong's apparel sales and nearly 20% of the national total. As a leader in the textile and apparel sector, Humen supports a full industrial chain that includes production, sales, and trade. By the end of 2009, there were over 1,250 garment factories in Humen, producing 250 million pieces annually with sales reaching 15 billion yuan and exports totaling 400 million U.S. dollars. Approximately 250,000 of the town’s 650,000 residents are engaged in the garment manufacturing industry. The town is home to 23 large-scale professional clothing wholesale markets, housing more than 10,000 shops across an area exceeding 300,000 square meters. These markets are mainly concentrated in Fumin Fashion City, within the central commercial district. Moreover, Humen clothing enterprises have established stores and chain outlets both domestically and internationally, with over 15,000 locations across more than 40 countries and regions. The town also hosts 147 supporting industries such as weaving, dyeing, zippers, embroidery, and buttons, along with 10 fabric and accessory wholesale markets. A 1-square-kilometer sales zone serves as a major hub for textiles and accessories, complemented by over 40 promotional agencies, 50 logistics and distribution companies, and more than 6,000 daily bus routes. From a design perspective, Humen clothing embodies the essence of the "Southern School Costume," drawing inspiration from nature, the sky, and the sea. It features lightweight fabrics, vibrant colors that reflect the southern landscape, and styles that follow trends from Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, and Europe, while also emphasizing the unique charm of Lingnan culture and the Southern Yue River region. In terms of product structure, the industry focuses primarily on women's fashion and casual wear, with 60% of garments being casual and 60% of the market dedicated to women’s clothing. Popular products include women’s fashion, T-shirts, sweaters, and jackets. After over two decades of development, Humen's clothing brands have evolved from OEM to branded names. Over 5,000 trademarks have been registered worldwide. Starting with the first International Fashion Fair in 1996, where seven brands were launched, the city has since nurtured more than 80 regional brands with significant influence. Today, a "pyramid-shaped" brand structure has emerged, with a clear hierarchy of "regional brand - Guangdong famous brand - national famous brand." Currently, over 30 apparel brands in Humen have earned the title of Guangdong Famous Brand, including one China Famous Brand, three Guangdong Famous Brands, and several others. This success highlights Humen's growing reputation as a leading center for fashion and textile innovation in China.
